Gallery of Activities in Clova Bay
Fish in the bay include cod, snapper, monkfish, gurnard, flounder, lemonfish/rig, kingfish, kahawai, skate as well as barracuda, stingray etc. Dolphins are common and Orca visit occasionally. It is 30 minutes by boat from Clova Cribs to deep water fishing in Cook Straight . For shellfish gatherers the bay offers pacific oysters, pippis, mussels and scallops.
A sandy beach such as the one at Clova Cribs is a rarity in the area and is a great beach for sunbathing and swimming, or to build sand castles, water ski, biscuit and windsurf etc from.
There’s also the nearby Waimaru reserve for hunters and plenty of roads and tracks for walkers, trampers and mountain-bikers.
There’s a grass tennis court (on Lot 4) and plenty of other flat open space. If you’re keen and the weather’s good there’s lots of isolated, private beaches around the Pelorus Sound where you can pull up in your boat and camp out for the night.
For the bird watchers you’ll enjoy plenty of tui, bellbirds, wood pigeons, wekas, swallows, pukekos, etc as well as herons, kingfishers, shags, tits, and stilts etc. A natural freshwater spring eminates into and ponds (Lots 1 and 7) on the property and is home to fresh water eels (that will gladly take food from your hand - if you’re game!) as well as often hosting mallard and paradise ducks
. The spring holds oodles of potential as a micro scenic/bush/haven feature area and/or for further bird life development.

For a break from the kitchen Te Rawa Resort is 10 minutes away by boat. Raetihi Lodge, Punga Cove Lodge and Portage Resort Hotel are all around 40 to 50 minutes drive away. For the golfers the Nopera Golf Course is around 30 minutes drive away.
